To meet increasing performance, emissions, and technology challenges, MMW® is developing leading edge vehicle technology that will force our competitors to become even more creative to remain competitive.  MMW® designs and develops Tri-Scooters that incorporate custom designed and patented suspension systems, patented slip differentials that allow the rear wheels to independently spin at different speeds to assist while turning, three-wheel hydraulic ABS brake system, a geometric diamond shape design coupled with a 4ft 8 inch wheel base that helps to stabilize the vehicle… and an efficient power train that delivers the required performance (80 + mpg with speeds of up to 65 – 70 mph) while meeting strict emission and noise requirements.

Engine design and development

To create the TC-III™ (TriCommuter-3) engine, we looked for a balanced
combination of real-world experience and theoretical design.   Using
advanced design and analysis tools, engineers determined optimum engine
parameters, including:

Intake and exhaust system layout; Piping length and diameter; Plenum
volume; Cam profile; Valve sizes; Compression ratio; and Bearings.


Our engineers use advanced computational fluid dynamic techniques to model and simulate the action of numerous gases and liquids in engine-related components and systems, including:

Transmission design and development

At MMW®, TC-III™ drive train development focuses on efficiently delivering engine power to the tire and road interface.  Our engineers optimize the input/output ratios at the primary drive, transmission, and secondary drive while simultaneously maximizing the power density of each component.  Our engineers model, design and analyze a wide array of power transferring technologies such as belts, chains, gears, automatic transmissions, and CVT transmissions to determine the best combination to use on the  TC-III™

Combustion chambers; Fuel injection systems; fuel mixing; Intake and exhaust ports; Engine block and cylinder cooling.

Frame development

There are many factors that affect ride performance.  Addressing these issues is a complicated science and elusive art.  There are many sources of vibration in the suspension and frame, and many evolving techniques for designing a quite, pleasant riding vehicle. MMW® maintains a comprehensive capability for model simulations and structural dynamics to ensure proper balance to achieve the perfect ride performance.  Our engineers evaluate frame vibration and noise levels in order to formulate experimental programs that will lead to identification of vibration sources, the paths of propagation and acceptable control measures.

Slip Differential development

At MMW® we designed our custom limited slip differential with three tasks in mind: (1) To aim the engine power at the wheels (2) To act as the final gear reduction in the vehicle, slowing the rotational speed of the transmission (CVT) one final time before it hits the wheel, and (3) To transmit the power to the wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds.  the rear drive wheels of the TC-III™ spin at different speeds, especially when turning.  Each wheel travels a different distance through turns... and the inside wheel travels a shorter distance than the outside wheel.  This allows the TC-III™ to navigate turns without a great deal of force being exerted by the driver.

Independent suspension development

There are two major schools of thought about motorcycle tri-wheel suspension... solid axle versus independent suspension.  Traditionally, solid axels three-wheelers offer good handling but a harsh ride.  The fully independent         TC-III™ suspension utilizes several unique approaches to maximize both handling and ride:  wide-track angular suspension, custom high performance shocks and a custom undercarriage that doubles as a stabilizer bar.  The angular suspension allow the wheels to move back and away from highway bumps, resulting in a softer, stable, controlled  ride.
